After seven years, the “Wicked” juggernaut shows no signs of abating. The Broadway production passed the 3,000-performance mark earlier this year. In January, the New York, London, and two U.S. national touring productions all broke box office records for weekly gross revenues.<\/p>\n

So many adore Wicked because it delivers everything people expect of a musical-theater experience: spectacle, songs you can sing in the shower, an emotionally compelling story with high stakes and underdog heroes. “Wicked” also makes the most of a theme that audiences of all ages can relate to: the unbreakable bond of friendship. “Wicked’s” greatest strength is the Glinda-Elphaba relationship. This story is ultimately about the unpredictability, resilience and importance of friendship, and how opposites often form the tightest bonds.<\/p>\n

“Wicked” tells the tale of the Wicked Witch before she achieved her infamy and misfortune, and it fills in the back-story about Oz and its not-so-wonderful Wizard.<\/p>\n

Earlier in life, the Wicked Witch was known as Elphaba. Born into a noble household, Elphaba is blamed for her younger sister’s disability. Nessarose was born prematurely (a result, Elphaba believes, of her parents’ fear of producing another child with Elphaba’s bright green skin) and is unable to walk.<\/p>\n

Wicked is performing from March 9 to April 3 at Orange County Performing Arts Center \u2013 Segerstrom Hall<\/a>, in Costa Mesa CA.<\/strong> <\/p>\n
