The Broadway musical Wicked is making another return visit to Chicago<\/a> for an eight-week engagement this fall.<\/strong> Wicked ran for more than three-and-a-half years in a dedicated Chicago production betwen 2005 and 2009.<\/p>\n

“Wicked,” the Tony Award-winning musical inspired by Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel about the young witches of Oz before Dorothy dropped in, returns to Chicago October 30, 2013 for a limited run, Broadway in Chicago announced late Sunday. The returning engagement of Wicked will play at Ford Center for the Performing Arts’ Oriental Theatre<\/a> from October 30 to December 21, 2013.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked imagines a pre-Dorothy backstory for the Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda the Good and several other characters familiar from L. Frank Baum’s original and the 1939 MGM film.<\/p>\n

This tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of the show’s Broadway debut marks the second time since Chicago’s sit-down production closed that “Wicked” has returned to Chicago<\/a>. “To be part of the 10th anniversary celebration and once again share ‘Wicked’ with Chicago audiences is a great honor,” said Broadway in Chicago President Lou Raizin in a prepared statement.<\/p>\n

The show has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman; though it lost the 2004 Tony Awards for best musical, book and score to Avenue Q, Wicked has gone on to set box office records in a number of cities. The new stop by one of Wicked’s touring companies will hit Chicago October 30\u2013December 21, coinciding with the ten-year anniversary of the musical’s Broadway production, which opened October 30, 2003 and is still running.<\/p>\n
