Wicked musical story is about Glinda and Elphaba coming together, being apart for awhile because of circumstances, and then coming together again and trying to do good in Oz. Along with an amazing score with hits such as “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” “Wicked” is a musical that delivers in every way, no matter how many times you have seen it.

Broadway hit musical, Wicked continues its journey across North America, Wicked Tickets are on sale.

Discover fun facts about the hit musical’s most popular tunes. “Dear Old Shiz” is the second song of the show. It is sung by the students of Shiz and Galinda.

Wicked Musical Song – Dear Old Shiz:

This short song marks the transition back from the present into the past, as Glinda starts to reminisce about her friendship with Elphaba. The pair met while at Shiz University, and all the Ozians on stage sing about the fondness they have for their own time at the school.

“Dear Old Shiz” also includes irony that’s only apparent on stage. Elphaba first appears during this song, and the other students recoil from her green skin the second she turns up at school. Everyone around her might be singing about “Dear Old Shiz,” but it wasn’t so “dear” to her.

Lyrics:
PERSON IN CROWD:
(spoken) Glinda! Is it true – were you her friend?!

GLINDA:
(spoken) Well – it depends on what you mean by “friend.” I did
know her. That is, our paths did cross. At school:

STUDENTS:
O hallowed halls and vine-draped walls
The proudliest sight there is
(Male: Sight there is)
When grey and sere our hair hath turned
We shall still revere the lessons learned
(Females)In our days at dear old Shiz
(Males: dear old Shiz)
Our days at dear old

GALINDA:
Oh-oh-oh-oh-ol

STUDENTS AND GALINDA:
Dear old Shiz-zzzz

Long before Dorothy from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the Land of Oz. One born with emerald green skin is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. The musical follow how these two girls grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Good Witch of the East.

Broadway hit musical, Wicked continues its journey across North America, Wicked Tickets are on sale.

Discover fun facts about the hit musical’s most popular tunes. “No One Mourns The Wicked” is the opening song in Act 1 of the musical Wicked. It is sung by Glinda, Witch’s Father, Witch’s Mother, Midwife and the show ensemble. The song was composed by Stephen Schwartz.

Wicked Musical Song – No One Mourns the Wicked:

No One Mourns the Wicked” is like an extended version of “Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead!” from The Wizard of Oz. Like “Ding-Dong!,” “No One Mourns the Wicked” hails the death of The Wicked Witch of the West — but this version isn’t all happy.

Glinda watches over the celebrating Ozians during this opening number, adding her own musings: “Isn’t it nice to know that good will conquer evil?” But, having known the “Wicked Witch” years earlier, she also urges the Ozians to consider: “Are people born wicked? Or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?” The audience then sees a little of Elphaba’s backstory play out: Her mother had an affair and gave birth to green-skinned Elphaba, whom her father immediately rejected.

Lyrics:
Good news!
She’s dead!
The Witch of the West is dead!
The wickedest witch there ever was
The enemy of all of us here in Oz
Is Dead!
Good news!
Good news!
Look! It’s Glinda!
Let us be glad
Let us be grateful
Let us rejoicify that goodness could subdue
The wicked workings of you-know-who
Isn’t it nice to know
That good will conquer evil?
The truth we all believe’ll by and by
Outlive a lie
For you and –
No one mourns the Wicked
No one cries “They won’t return!”
No one lays a lily on their grave
The good man scorns the Wicked!
Through their lives, our children learn
What we miss, when we misbehave:
And Goodness knows
The Wicked’s lives are lonely
Goodness knows
The Wicked die alone
It just shows when you’re Wicked
You’re left only
On your own
Yes, Goodness knows
The Wicked’s lives are lonely
Goodness knows
The Wicked cry alone
Nothing grows for the Wicked
They reap only
What they sow
Are people born Wicked? Or do they have
Wickedness thrust upon them? After all, she had
a father. She had a mother, as so many do:
How I hate to go and leave you lonely
That’s alright – it’s only just one night
But know that you’re here in my heart
While I’m out of your sight
And like every family – they had their secrets
Have another drink, my dark-eyed beauty
I’ve got one more night left, here in town
So have another drink of green elixir
And we’ll have ourselves a little mixer
Have another little swallow, little lady,
And follow me down.
And of course, from the moment she was born,
she was – well – different
It’s coming
Now?
The baby’s coming
And how!
I see a nose
I see a curl
It’s a healthy, perfect,
Lovely, little –
Sweet Oz!
What is it? what’s wrong?
How can it be?
What does it mean?
It’s atrocious
It’s obscene!
Like a froggy, ferny cabbage
The baby is unnaturally
Green!
Take it away, take it away!
So you see – it couldn’t have been easy!
No one mourns the Wicked!
Now at last, she’s dead and gone!
Now at last, there’s joy throughout the land
And Goodness knows
We know what Goodness is
Goodness knows
The Wicked die alone
She died alone
Woe to those (Woe to those)
Who spurn what Goodnesses
They are shown
No one mourns the Wicked
Good news!
No one mourns the Wicked!
Good news!
No one mourns the Wicked!
Wicked!
Wicked!
