Katie Rose Clarke and Kyle Dean Massey will return to the company of the first North American tour of Wicked. They will once again play Glinda and Fiyero in Wicked musical at the Aronoff Center in Cincinnati, OH beginning November 15, 2011.

Clarke played Glinda for almost two years on tour, and has also recently performed the role on Broadway. Additional Broadway credits include the role of Clara Johnson in the Broadway production of The Light in the Piazza. Massey comes directly from the Broadway company of Wicked, where he played Fiyero. He also starred on Broadway as Gabe in Next to Normal, with other credits including Xanadu, Altar Boyz, and Lucky Guy. The actors will join a cast that includes Mamie Parris as Elphaba, Liz McCartney as Madame Morrible and Mark Jacoby as the Wizard.

Wicked will be performing from Wednesday, November 9 through Sunday, December 4 at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines.

The hit Broadway musical “Wicked” tour will come to Des Moines coming week for almost 4 weeks performing at Des Moines Civic Center. When Wicked first landed in Nashville in 2009, it played to sold-out crowds and broke box-office records. Now, the award-winning blockbuster is back and once again ready to cast its spell on local audiences at Tennessee Performing Arts Center.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, Wicked opened on Broadway in 2003 and quickly became something of a cultural phenomenon. Loosely based on Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, the musical explores the untold story (and unlikely friendship) of green-skinned Elphaba and Glinda the Good — and just how they became the witches of Oz.

Anne Brummel brings great strength and sensitivity to the role of Elphaba, wowing the crowd in the show’s defining musical number, “Defying Gravity.” Meanwhile, Tiffany Haas shines as the perky and popular Glinda. Far less chirpy than other Glindas I’ve seen, Haas makes the most of the role’s comic elements, while capitalizing on its more bittersweet moments.

And while the two seemed a bit tentative in their opening numbers, both settle into their roles nicely, sharing a joyful chemistry. “What Is This Feeling?” and “Popular” are especially fun.

Brummel and Haas receive fine support from Jody Gelb (as schoolmistress Madame Morrible), Emily Ferranti (Nessarose) and Dan Pacheco (Boq). David Nathan Perlow is charming as love-interest Fiyero, and film/stage veteran Don Amendolia is … well, wonderful as the Wizard.

Eugene Lee’s elaborate set continues to amaze, and the production’s technical wizardry is dazzling — from the Time Dragon Clock and flying monkeys to Glinda’s gracefully floating bubble. Susan Hilferty’s intricate and colorful costumes and Kenneth Posner’s dramatic lighting add to the spectacle.

“Wicked,” which broke Fox Theatre box office records three times, will be back for the holiday season next year 2012.

Wicked musical show will open at the Fox Theatre on December 12, 2012, and run through January 6, 2013.

It will be the fourth time the musical has played the Fox, and the first time that it will not be part of the Broadway subscription series. That means more seats will be available for nonsubscribers. Subscribers, however, will have priority for ticket sales, before the general ticket sale.

A twist on “The Wizard of Oz” that tells the story from the viewpoint of the misunderstood green girl who comes to be known as the Wicked Witch of the West, “Wicked” is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire. Stephen Schwartz wrote the songs, which include “Popular” and “Defying Gravity.”

“We are thrilled that St. Louis can ring in the 2012 holidays with ‘Wicked,’” said Fox producer Kristin Caskey, calling the show “the preeminent American musical.” Still running on Broadway after eight years, seven companies are staging “Wicked” around the world.
