Everything you’ve heard about Wicked is true; it’s an awe-inspiring stage spectacle filled with special effects, gorgeous sets and lighting, exquisite costumes, an amazingly gifted cast, a glorious musical score and an immensely entertaining, yet slightly irreverent (perhaps even a little subversive) script. It also has plot points so broad that you could drive a freight train through them, but if you’re willing to suspend disbelief and allow yourself to become totally immersed in the phenomenon, you can’t help but walk away tremendously satisfied, humming those wonderful tunes and having a sort of “which came first: the chicken or the egg” debate with your companions. Wicked is the second film backed by Universal Studios, the commercial appeal comes from the wide-spread fascination with the world of Oz. America has found the world of Oz engaging since the days when L. Frank Baum published his first book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1900. The musical has become one of the standing icons of the decade on Broadway, although there are a few musicals that have won equal numbers of rewards non has become so widely known or so widely loved as Wicked.

A visual masterpiece, the musical’s soundtrack is also one of the favorite buys from Broadway today. No matter what you enjoy, Wicked tickets are a great way to celebrate 2009.

Wicked has a lot to do with witches, so this Friday we’re going to give you the scoop on witches, historical, modern day and fictional. Enjoy:
Witch Facts:
[ad#blog-ad-1]
* A male witch is actually considered a witch, not a warlock, by modern Wicca-style witches. No separate-but-equal here.
* While Satanists use the inverted pentagram enclosed in a circle, witches use the right-side-up pentagram, enclosed in a circle. These different symbols mean very different things. The four elements- air, fire, earth, water- are located below the fifth element- the creator. Typically, witches don’t worship Satan.
* 29 people were accused of being witches in the famous Salem Witch trials.
* Giles Cory, an 80-year old man who was accused of being a witch in Salem, was crushed to death for more than two days, until he finally died without having confessed to being a witch.
* Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from the Harry Potter series has four houses, Gryfindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.
* Cate Blanchett portrays Galadriel, and elf witch, in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.

Wicked The Musical is incredibly popular for many reasons, most of which have to do with the excellent direction, production, design and acting that audiences are treated to when they attend the show. However there are many other elements of the show that are incredibly appealing to audiences of a wide range of ages. One extremely popular theme that runs through the show has to do with the subversiveness of differences, which is most strongly presented in the character of Elphaba. Not only is our heroine’s skin green but her personality is very different from those around her. Her physical difference also makes her look look at the world and others in a way that is set apart from her peers.

As the young Elphaba begins to learn how to interpret her place in Oz, she also shows a remarkable ability to look at things in a way that is very much independent of the society that she grew up in. She does not simply accept what she is told as fact, but judges things based on her own experiences. As Wicked tickets continue to be incredibly popular, this unique and appealing theme that runs through the musical can easily be considered one of the greatest appeals that he story has to theater-goers.

Though the top rank was taken from them for just a few weeks, the Gershwin Theatre regained their number one position this week as the number one venue ranking for the week ending in Sunday, May 10th. According to TicketNews’ exclusive ranking systems, it was a close race with all the NBA and NHL playoffs that are happening this week, but the Gershwin Theatre took the gold due to one slight factor – Wicked. The Broadway hit musical that has been touring the nation helped take the Gershwin Theatre to the lead in both TicketNews’s Top Broadway Events and Top Theatre Events, with a score of 2.99.

A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare venues within a particular category. If you want to see the show at the number one theatre this week get Wicked ,Gershwin Theatre tickets today.
