Broadway blockbuster ‘Wicked’ returns for a 5-week run to the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center in downtown Orlando from February 23, 2011.
“We’ve been on the road for six years, so we pretty much have it down to a science,” Company Manager Steve Quinn told.
Most of the crew is local — about 80 out of 100. So the 20 touring crew members have a lot of explaining to do. “They assist the locals in assembling this big jigsaw puzzle,” Quinn said.
Perhaps one of the most familiar props to “Wicked” lovers is the big dragon, which was already in place Tuesday. But if you haven’t seen the musical, a lot of the backstage “stuff” probably doesn’t ring any bells. The bottom line is that everything the audience sees plays a part in revealing a little bit about the Wizard of Oz.
“There’s several “ah-ha” moments, I call them, that you kind of go, ‘Oh I never thought about that,’” Quinn said. “We figure out if Glinda the Good Witch is really good, and is the Wicked Witch really wicked. You need to come find that out.”
