More than 150 people lined up Thursday inside the Peoria Civic Center to get first dibs on tickets for the Broadway musical Wicked, which will play at the Peoria Civic Center for 24 performances in October.

“We thought there was going to be a lot more people in line, and we got here and I’m like, ‘Yeah I’m a geek now,” said Crystal Michael, 21, of Chillicothe, who came with her 18-year-old sister.

Crystal Michael spent $174 on two tickets. Prices ranged from $42 to $127 per ticket, depending on the seats.

Several people waiting in line said they wanted to see the Wicked show, because it would provide more background to the characters in the “Wizard of Oz” movie, of which the show is partly based on.

Wicked will be performing through October 30, 2011 for 24 performances in Peoria Civic Center Theatre. New season tickets for the Peoria Civic Center’s 2010-2011 Broadway Theater Series go on sale Monday, June 6, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Peoria Civic Center Box Office or by phone at 309-673-3200. Season ticket holders receive the first opportunity to purchase the best available seats, discounts on ticket prices, and advance notice on theatrical events at the Peoria Civic Center.

Patrons that visit the Peoria Civic Center Box Office to purchase their new season tickets between 10 a.m. and noon on June 6 will be able to take advantage of one-on-one personal service with Civic Center Box Office staff and complimentary light refreshments.

Wicked coming to Peoria, Illinois to perform at Peoria Civic Center Theater as it’s first downstate run, from October 13 through October 30.

The Peoria Civic Center is thrilled to host the premiere engagement of ‘Wicked’ in downstate Illinois,” states Debbie Ritschel, the Civic Center’s general manager. “The show itself is the biggest blockbuster to play on our stage in years.
