Dallas Summer Musicals, Inc. (DSM) has announced their 73rd season of shows, with seven touring Broadway productions coming to the Music Hall at Fair Park. The mega-hit Wicked musical is included in the schedule.
Wicked musical will be returning to Dallas for four weeks from April 10 to May 5, 2013. DSM chief Michael Jenkins swears this is the most requested musical in his poll of patrons. So he’s hauling back the witches, Munchkins and flying monkeys for a fourth go-round. It is one of the great Broadway hits (it’s still running there). If you saw any of the previous tours that came to Dallas, you’d have seen actress Stephanie J. Block, now a big Broadway star (she’s prepping the New York revival of The Mystery of Edwin Drood), as Elphaba, and Smash star Megan Hilty as Glinda.
So much happened before Dorothy dropped in! Variety calls WICKED “a cultural phenomenon,” and it has broken box office records and sold out every time it has played Dallas. Wicked is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster,” according to The New York Times. Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One—born with emerald green skin—is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for “the most complete—and completely satisfying—new musical in a long time.” (USA Today).
