Again Broadway Across Canada scores a hit with their lavish Wicked production. Long sustained standing ovations aside this delightful musical is bringing the house down at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

Based loosely on the classic 1939 MGM classic The Wizard of Oz this new slick version looks at the witches of Oz from a fresh new angle. Women, love, family and jealously all figure prominently in this 2 1/2 hour spectacular that Oz creator Baum and studio head Louis B. Mayer would be rightly proud of.

In this 2 act play bolstered by dozens of hip songs we see the flavour of Oz can put through the ringer when a green faced girl matures, gets scorned and hates all that’s good in the world. Over time our little Wicked gets tangled in a monumental struggle with her dad, her wheel-chair bound sister and a school girl princess like friend. How these three individuals handle their differences will keep your eyes glued to the stage throughout this enchanting romp.

Second North American touring company of Wicked will welcome Laurel Harris, Kara Lindsay & Gene Weygandt in April 2014. Laurel Harris will take the role of Elphaba, Kara Lindsay as Glinda and Gene Weygandt as the Wizard beginning Wednesday, April 2 in Fresno, CA at Saroyan Theatre.

Laurel Harris returns to Wicked after touring with the show for the past three years. She was most recently the Standby for Elphaba on the 1st North American Tour.

Kara Lindsay originated the role of Katherine in the Broadway production of Newsies. She toured with Little House on the Prairie as Laura.

Gene Weygandt has previously played the Wizard in Wicked on Broadway and on tour. He has also appeared on Broadway in big: The Musical.

According to Broadway in Hawaii, Wicked grossed over $9 million during its eight-week run. More than 110,000 fans watched the show while it was in Honolulu. Wicked closes it’s run in Honolulu, but had a big impact in the economy.

They say the show boosted sales for nearby restaurants, hotels, and businesses, translating into a $30 million economic impact.

Dallas Summer Musicals, Inc. (DSM) has announced their 73rd season of shows, with seven touring Broadway productions coming to the Music Hall at Fair Park. The mega-hit Wicked musical is included in the schedule.

Wicked musical will be returning to Dallas for four weeks from April 10 to May 5, 2013. DSM chief Michael Jenkins swears this is the most requested musical in his poll of patrons. So he’s hauling back the witches, Munchkins and flying monkeys for a fourth go-round. It is one of the great Broadway hits (it’s still running there). If you saw any of the previous tours that came to Dallas, you’d have seen actress Stephanie J. Block, now a big Broadway star (she’s prepping the New York revival of The Mystery of Edwin Drood), as Elphaba, and Smash star Megan Hilty as Glinda.

The National Touring Company of Wicked will host WICKED AFTER DARK, an evening of cabaret performances on Monday, August 20 at the Off Broadway Theatre, 272 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. This event will benefit Utah AIDS Foundation and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The event will feature cast and crew members of the company performing a cabaret evening of music.

Produced by company members, the evening is an opportunity for them to step out of their roles in the musical in music, dance and comedy; and will feature company members including, Nicole Parker (Elphaba), Kim Zimmer (Madame Morrible), Clifton Davis (Dr. Dillamond), Demaree Hill (Nessarose) and Carla Stickler (Elphaba Standby), as well as members of the ensemble and the touring staff. In addition, there will be a silent auction of items including Wicked memorabilia, and a live auction of several opportunities to join the company backstage at the Capitol Theatre during their final week, including a chance to bid on a walk-on role in Wicked.

Katie Rose Clarke and Kyle Dean Massey will return to the company of the first North American tour of Wicked. They will once again play Glinda and Fiyero in Wicked musical at the Aronoff Center in Cincinnati, OH beginning November 15, 2011.

Clarke played Glinda for almost two years on tour, and has also recently performed the role on Broadway. Additional Broadway credits include the role of Clara Johnson in the Broadway production of The Light in the Piazza. Massey comes directly from the Broadway company of Wicked, where he played Fiyero. He also starred on Broadway as Gabe in Next to Normal, with other credits including Xanadu, Altar Boyz, and Lucky Guy. It’s flyaway time for the “Wicked Years” series. “Out of Oz,” the fourth and final volume of Gregory Maguire’s million-selling take on “The Wizard of Oz,” will come out on Nov. 1.

Publisher William Morrow announced Wednesday that “Out of Oz” will feature all sorts of magical mayhem, with the Emerald City plotting an attack on Munchkinland, while the Cowardly Lion runs for his life. Young Dorothy pops in for “something more than a cameo.”

Maguire’s “Wicked,” published in 1995, was adapted into the long-running Broadway musical of the same name. His other books include “Son of a Witch” and “A Lion Among Men.”
