The wizard and witches of the magical land of Oz, Wicked West End production will continue to enchant London’s theatregoers as it has extended the booking period to 26 April 2014.

The Olivier Award-winning production, which is now in its seventh spectacular year at the Apollo Victoria, has already been seen by almost five million theatregoers since it opened in London in 2006 and is already the 16th longest running West End musical of all time. Starring leading musical theatre star Louise Dearman as green-skinned witch Elphaba, the musical phenomenon tells the untold story of the witches of Oz, introducing two girls who meet as sorcery students and following them as they grow into the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West and the ever-popular Glinda The Good.

Wicked West End Cast Update: Dearman, who is the first actress to play both Glinda and Elphaba, is joined in the current cast by Gina Beck as Glinda, Ben Freeman as Fiyero and Louise Plowright as Madame Morrible. Melissa Jacques has replaced Tania Mathurin as the Midwife and understudy for Madame Morrible. Michelle Francis has replaced Florence Andrews in the ensemble and as an understudy for Glinda and Nessarose.

Ms Dearman played Glinda, the good witch Until December 2011. But from 29 October 2012 she is set to make the unprecedented switcheroo to the eponymously wicked witch of the west, Elphaba.

The producers say this is the first time the same leading lady has played both star roles in Wicked, which all of you in Wicked-land know imagines the origins of the witches from The Wizard Of Oz.

In response to the rumours, the Apollo Victoria Theatre has taken to Twitter, saying “We cannot confirm or deny the rumour”, but adding “we love Louise Dearman at the AV and she is always welcome, in whatever form it may be!”

Gina Beck and Matt Willis are to join the London company of Wicked as Glinda and Fiyero, respectively, and Desmond Barrit is to return as the Wizard, beginning performances Dec. 12.

The pair are joined in the cast by Lillie Flynn as Nessarose, Christopher Howell as Doctor Dillamond and Adam Pettigrew as Boq. Desmond Barrit, who first starred in Wicked in 2008, returns to the role of The Wizard.

Rachel Tucker, who won this year’s Whatsonstage.com Award for Best Take Over in a Role will, as previously reported, remain in the role of Elphaba. Julie Legrand also stays on as Madame Morrible.

Beck, who is currently appearing on the London stage in The Belle’s Stratagem at Southwark Playhouse, recently finished a two-year run starring as Christine Daaé in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera at London’s Her Majesty’s Theatre. She made her debut in 2006 as Cosette in Les Miserables and performed in the show’s 25th anniversary celebrations at The O2 last year.

Matt Willis came to prominence as a member of the BRIT Award-winning band Busted and has subsequently appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. Trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School, he made his West End debut in Flashdance and has recently appeared in the UK tour of Footloose.

Barrit previously starred in Wicked in 2008/9. He recently played Falstaff in Henry IV Parts One and Two for peter Hall at the Bath Theatre Royal.

Wicked has now played over 2000 performances and celebrates five years in the West End on 27 September 2011. The Broadway musical, which opened in London on 27 September 2006 (previews from 6 September), tells the “untold story” of the Witches of Oz – popular blonde Glinda, aka the Good Witch of the North, and her spin-victim friend Elphaba – who were both immortalised in the 1939 film classic The Wizard of Oz.

Wicked announced that tickets are now on sale up to Saturday October 27th next year. Wicked is set to continue its run in front of those on London, GL theatre.

The news comes after the musical passed its 2,000th landmark performance, which has entertained nearly four million people and generated more than £135 million at the box office.

During its time at the Apollo Victoria theatre, the production has picked up a number of prizes, including the 2010 Olivier Award for Most Popular Show and the Whatsonstage.com gong for Best West End Show in 2010 and 2011.

It is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire which tells the story of a friendship between two girls who meet up as sorcery students, with the pair going on to be Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Wicked Cast Currently, Rachel Tucker (Elphaba), Louise Dearman (Glinda), Mark Evans (Fiyero) and Julie Legrand (Madame Morrible) are starring in the production.

Wicked, the smash hit musical, celebrated a new West End Box Office milestone last week (w/c 27 December 2010) grossing an incredible £1,002,885, the highest single-week gross in London theatre history. Over 20,000 theatregoers attended 9 performances of the “hugely popular musical” (The Times).

In 2010, Wicked continued to sustain year-on-year growth at the Box Office, grossing in excess of £30 million (up over £3 million on 2009). Over 800,000 people attended performances across the year.

Now in its 5th year, Wicked has played almost 1800 performances, been seen by over 3 million theatregoers and taken in excess of £121 million at the UK Box Office since its West End premiere at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in 2006.

Executive Producer Michael McCabe said in a statement: “2010 proved to be an extraordinary year for Wicked. As well as enjoying our highest grossing year to date and achieving the amazing milestone of a £1million grossing week, we also won several prestigious awards, raised funds for The Woodland Trust and the St John Ambulance ‘Teach the Difference’ project and we were enormously proud to launch the Wicked Young Writers’ Award with the support of Michael Morpurgo and our Patron, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall. London-WickedWest End hit musical Wicked is celebrating takings of £100m since it opened in September 2006.

The cast and crew of Wicked are celebrating after the musical passed the £100 million mark in box office takings. The show has been seen by almost three million people over 1,500 performances London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre, according to its producers.

Speaking to the Stage, executive producer Michael McCabe said Wicked is “still going incredibly strong” after nearly four years.

He commented: “What we’re doing is still going up – that’s the real phenomenon of Wicked, it hasn’t plateaued. It just keeps on surprising us.”

Mr McCabe added that the show’s success has been based on “word of mouth”, with audiences growing gradually despite a mixed reception from critics in the first few months.

Voted most popular show at this year’s Laurence Olivier Awards, Wicked welcomed Lee Mead to the cast in May.

The former star of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is playing Fiyero and has joined Rachel Tucker and Louise Dearman in the Apollo Victoria production.
